About
Our Story
The Amish Gallery grew from Home of Economy Home Furnishings in Grand Forks, North Dakota, where we proudly offered quality home furnishings for over sixty years. As many top American furniture brands began sourcing overseas in the late 1990s, we sought American-made alternatives to meet our customers’ needs.
At the same time, Amish families began marketing their exquisite bench-made hardwood furniture. We connected with premier builders in Holmes County, Ohio, home to North America’s largest Amish population. In February 2006, we received our first shipment from Country View Woodworking, and it exceeded our expectations. Since then, CVW has become our largest and most dependable hardwood furniture supplier. In early 2008, we expanded our offerings to include upholstered items from Smith Brothers of Berne, Indiana. Today, our Grand Forks location is the top source for Amish furniture in the upper Midwest!

Frequently Asked
What is Amish Furniture?
Amish furniture is not a particular style, or brand. The Amish live a simple family-oriented lifestyle, grounded in their faith. True Amish furniture is made by family workshops in Amish communities.
Is Amish Furniture Better?
Most Amish furniture is made using age old techniques that have passed the test of time. Individuals that grow up in Amish families learn at a young age the value of hard work, and of a job done well. This work ethic is reflected in the quality of the furniture they produce.
Is Amish Furniture Made of Solid Wood?
The vast majority of our Amish furniture is constructed of Ohio sourced hardwood solids. Some components might be lumber core plywood for structural reasons.
What Sort of Fabric Quality do We Offer?
All the fabrics offered by Smith Brothers of Berne, and by Country View Woodworking are rub tested for durability, and only top grain leathers are used.
Do We Take Specialty Orders?
We stock the items we display for immediate availability, and we also special order to suit the individual fabric, wood, hardware style, and finish.
Is Amish Furniture Easy to Take Care of and Maintain?
All of our solid hardwood Amish furniture is finished in a catalyzed conversion varnish that is hard, and highly stain resistant. There is no special care required, but use of a quality wax-free polish on occasion is suggested. We recommend Guardsman or Woodwright polishes.
Is Amish Furniture Made in the USA?
All of our solid hardwood Amish furniture is made in Holmes County, Ohio, which has the largest population of Amish in North America. Our Smith Brothers of Berne upholstered furniture is made in the heart of Indiana’s Amish country.
What Sort of Warranty does the Amish Gallery Offer?
Smith Brothers upholstered pieces have a limited lifetime warranty on the frame, springs, and cushion foam, and one year on fabric. Country View Woodworking offers a one-year warranty on all materials and workmanship.
What is the Construction of the Amish Furniture?
All tables, chairs, and cabinets are constructed of solid American hardwoods. All drawers are dovetailed construction with full suspension ball bearing glides. Chairs and cabinets use mortice & tenon joinery, corner blocks, and pocket screws. All exposed wood is finished in a catalyzed conversion varnish. Undersides of tables, backs of cabinets and headboards, are finished.
What Wood and Stains Do We Offer?
The vast majority of products are available in northern red oak, quarter-sawn white oak, cherry, brown maple, hard maple, rustic cherry, and hickory. Some accent pieces are also available in gray elm and walnut. There are over twenty standard finishes, as well as distressed finishes & paints. Country View Woodworking also offers custom stain match services.
